VERY SEVERE FIGHTING ENEMY REPULSED IN AEL • ' ' QUARTERS. The Prime Minister received to-day the following cable message from the High Commissioner in London :—: — "London, 22nd Sept., 1.35 a.m. "Reliable — The French authorities say that the position of the Allies is favour- ¦ able. There has been very severe fighting in the Cra^nne district. The enemy were repulsed in all quarters. " The Germans are bombarding Termonde and taking up a strong position between Wavre- and Louvain. " Several hundred German prisoners have been landed at Southampton. " Turkey, has decided upon partial demobilisation. "The casualty list of H.M.S. Pegaeus shows that five officers were killed or wounded, twenty-four men killed, nine missing, and fifty wounded. " Lloyd's reports that the Emden sunk the British steamer Clan Matheson in the Bay of Bengal. The crew were landed at Rangoon."
