MANOEUVRES ON THE HILLS
On Saturday A, B, and C Companies of the sth Regiment mu&tered at the Buckle-street Drill Hall and marched to Mount Victoria range. On arriving there, tho officers and jnen were addressed by Lieut.-Colonel A. de B. Brandon, vyho stated that ho had brought them out in order that they might gain further knowledge of discipline and manoeuvring. Platoons of the three companies then made their way from the top of Pirie-street to Mount Victoria, taking cover as they went. , When, they retitrned to the base. Lieut. -ColoneL Brandon again addressed a few words to the Territorials. Their manoeuvring, he said, had been fairly good, but it had not been quite steady enough. Aftor giving them some good 1 advice from the officer's point of view, he marched them back to the Drill Hall, and dismissed them.' The spectacle of a large number ofsoldiers manoeuvring on the face of the hill aroused much interest among people who saw them.
