Bidding at the London sheepskins Sales was very irregular in consequence of the absence of the Continental competition, the Home trade only being represented. Of the catalogue of 4530 bales of Australasian offered there Were only 3000 sold. Merinos sold at -25 per cent, and crossbreds at 15 per cent, below last sale rates. All shorn descriptions were unsaleable. LONDON MARKETS. LONDON, 18th September. Butter.— The market is quiet. Danish prices show a hardening- tendency, but colonial sorts are nominally unchanged. Cheese. — The market is quiet, the Government having filled present requirements. New Zealand coloured, 72s per cwt; white, 765, a rise of Is in the latter case and a fall of Is for coloured. Bacon. — Market dull; 70s to 80s is asked for Australian Cumberlands, but there are no buyers. Sugar.— This is now rated at 28s 6d per cwt f a drop of 2s on the week. Wheat. — On a steady market Australian wheat is offering at 47b od per quarter. Pig-iron.— MiddlesboroUgh No. 3, unchanged at 51s per ton. Tin. — About £135 per ton. Copper.— Electrolytic, £55 to £55 10s per ton. | Bradford Tops. — The market for merinos is flat, but crossbreds are firm and prices unchanged at : 64's, 29d per lb. ; super 60'b, 23d; common 60s. 27d; 56's, 23[d; 50's, 20id. Messrs. Murray, Roberts and Co., Ltd., have received advice from their London friends, Messrs. Sanderson; Murray and Co., dated 17th inst., as follows:—" Fifth series of wool soles limited to new arrivals up to the 18th August. Merino sheepskins declined 2d on last sale's rates." Dalgety and Co.^ Ltd., London, cable as follows: — "Sheepskins. — At the sales held on 16th and 17th inst. the decline in prices ranged from Id to lfd." THE WOOL SALES. The postponement of the London wool sales from 29th September, the original date, to 6th October has now been confirmed. This arrangement has been come to in order to include shipments arriving to 18th August. There will bo about 50,000 bales available for the sale in question. GRAIN AND FLOUR. The Chicago wheat market being quieter has steadied pricey. Australians landed are quoted at 475. Flour is quieter in tone,> Australian es store being available at 465. Oats are very slow, New Zealands ex store being offered at 30s to 325. Peas are firm, but beans are easier in tone.
