"THE CREATION"
♦ An event of considerable interest to Wellington lovers of tho kinematograph art will take place next week, when a moving picture will be screened at the Town Hall on Monday next and for the following fortnight at afternoon and evening sessions. The picture is the property > of the International Bible Students' Association, to whom the use of the Town Hall has been granted for the sum of £100, on condition that no charge for admission nor collection is made. The drama, which has cost years of labour by hundreds of artists in collecting the illustrations, has resulted in an enormous outlay of money. There are 12,000 ft of film and over 400 lantern slides, and the object of the production, by the association is the education of the peoples of the world. The drama is, of course, strongly associated with' the Bible and its teachings, but it is unsectarian and inter-denominational, and the education which it gives is said to bo broadening. The drama is in four parts, and the pictures are said to be | of absorbing interest. There will be no charge for admission.
The Mayor, being engaged at the City Council meeting, was unable to attend the Brooklyn "Social" in aid of the Patriotic Fund and Mayor's Relief Fund last night, but tho Mayoress and Miss Luke were present. Just before the supper Mrs. Luke addressed the gathering in the patriotic cause, and expressed pride at the noble sacrifices being made by the mothers in the Old Land, and of the actions of our boys in readily responding to the Empire's call, and also to their part in the cause at Samoa. Mrs. Luke also complimented the residents for the steps taken to assist, and congratulated the Ladies' Committee, who had brought the gathering to such a successful issue. A patriotic concert is to be held at Brooklyn next week in support of the funds. Molesworth-street was stated by Councillor A. R. Atkinson at last night's meeting of the City Council to be in a dangerous state owing to the water plugs projecting above the level of the thoroughfare. The Mayor (Mr. J. P. Luke) explained that considerable improvements were to be made by the council to the street mentioned. The roadway was to be put down in macada^n and repairs to the liiotpaths would also doubtless be carried out. On the recommendation of the City Engineer, the private Sewer at the corner of Moxham-avenuo and Waitoa*road (Kilbiinie North) has been taken over by the council as a public sewer.
