MALIINA'S FIRST VISIT. For the purpose of taking aboard additional coal to complete her cargo the A.U.S.N. Company's steamer Mallina arrived in port today from Westport. Thiß is the vessel's first vi6it to this port, the reason for which is dv& to the fact that the depth of water on theV/estport bar prevented the Mallina from taking aboard the full shipment of coal at that port. She arrived there recently from Noumea, New Caledonia, where she had landed a cargo of Bulli (Australian) coal. The Mallina is a steel screw vessel of 3213 tons sross, having been built in 1909 by Mesbrs. Harland and Woltf, Ltd ,of Belfast. Her dimensions are :— Length, 350.5 ft; breadth, 44.3 ft; depth, 23.3 ft. WIRELESS FROM THE SUREST. A wireless message received by the local agents for the F and S. Line from the master of the Surrey, en route from Liverpool to WelJington, states that the vessel expects to arrive at Newcastle to-morrow. She afterwards visits Auckland, and then comes on to Wellington towards the end of the month. TURAKINA ARRIVES HOME. A cablegram received at the local office of the New Zealand Shipping Company announces tho arrivnl at Plymouth on Tuesday last of the Turakina, from Wellington. The vessel cleared this port for London on the 30th July, having reached Home after a iniart passage of 40 days, which is more creditable in view of the present conditions at ssa. ' The latest report from the West Coast states that th& condition of the Westport and Greymouth bars are still causing much inconvenience, although there lias been an improvement, which has enabled several vessels to resume running. The overhaul to the Putiki is expected to be completed in time for the vetsel to be despatched, for Wanganul on Saturday nest. Sailing to-day for Lyttelton the Aparima will afterwards call at Tiuiaru and Bluff before going to Dunedin. As the Corinna has been delayed on her present trip north she will not arrive back in Wellington from Onehunga and New Plymouth until Saturday, being Used to bail at noon the same day for Dunedin direct, taking cargo for Oamaru and Tiuiaru. Due to-morrow from northern ports the Mokoia is bringing 360 tons of cargo for this port.
