CONTRIBUTIONS.
There is no abatement in the stream of monetary gifts which began directly it was learned that Great Britain and the Empire were involved in the struggle in Europe. The various funds organised in Melbourne and Sydney alone have the fine aggregate of a quarter of a million pounds. The process of collecting is now being given a more systematic form, and the results show that only a beginning has been made with the regular collection of the halfcrowns and shillings which the mass of the people are cheerfully ready to give. In addition there is abundance of intimations that the initial inrush of contributions of ten* and hundreds and thousands of pounds is in large measure to be considered only as '"first instalments.
