TROTTING HUTT VALLEY CLUB
The annual meeting of the Hutt Valley Trotting Club was held at Petone last evening, Mr. H. J. Palmer (president) occupying the chair. ' In presenting the report of the year's undertakings, the stewards congratulated members upon the improved financial position of the club. The sport had taken a firm hold in the district, and was now well established. Confidence was felt that, with extra permits, the club would soon take- its place amongst the foremost of the Dominion. The club started the season with a credit balance of £438 14s 6d, and closed with £648 16s Id, an improvement of £210 Is 7d, after allowing £20 for depreciation. The receipts this year amounted to £1180 3s 2d as against £945 19s 6d last year, an increase of £235. This was principally due to increased totalisator returns and extra nomination fees. The expenditure was £10 less than in 1913, which included £130 for totalisators. The stakes this year amounted, to £525, as against £455 last year, this^ being an increase of £70. The amount given in stakes by the club for a one day meeting was only exceeded, by one other club in the Dominion. The meeting was again, a great success and fully justified the club altering its dates. Although the attendance was slightly smaller it was a more representative sports gathering, this fact being fully borne out by the increased returns from the totalisator. The report concluded by sincerely thanking Mr. S. N. Burridge for his services as honorary starter. Stewards were elected for the ensuing year as follow :-- -Messi*. John Sharpc, James Sharp*. J. T. Craig, H. Ryder, J. Elaines, J. p. Marks, H. Edwards, 0. Upton, R. Quinn, J. August, F. M'Parland, R. M'Whirter, W. H. Edwards, F. Folfey, and E. King. Sixty-five n«w members were elected.
