MAGISTRATE'S COURT
Mr. D. G. A. Cooper, S.M., presided at to-day's sitting of the Magistrate's Court. Nine first offenders for drunkenness were leniently treated, one having his bail of 10s estreated, while another wn> ordered to pay medical "expenses totalling 10s 6d. Guy Cockburn was fined £2, in default seven days in gaol, and Charle* Fowler was fined £1, or three day* 1 imprisonment. When arrested yesterday for drunkenness, John Hinchley violently resisted Constable Parkinson in the execution of his duty. He was convicted and dis charged for drunkenness, fined £1, in default seven days in gaol for resisting, and • ordered to make good the damage done to a helmet (9s 3d), or spend three days in gaol. Mary ' Hunter, charged with the theft of goods from a laundry in Taranakistreet, pleaded not guilty. His Worship said he was satisfied that accused knew at least thai the goods had been stolen, and imposed a fine of 30s, in default seven days' imprisonment. There -were sixteen previous convictions against Hunter, including five for theft. Charged with a breach of a probationary license issued by the Supreme Court at Palmerston North, Tohn Barnes was further remanded.
