PALMERSTON CAMP. WORK STILL PROCEEDING.
Various rumours regarding the movement of the troops now under canvas at AwapUni have been rife during the pa6t few days. One was that the men will be despatched to Wellington on Sunday morning as quickly as possible, and that everything was in readiness for the departure. ; 0n enquiries being made at the Defence Office to-day, it was definitely stated that no day had been finally fixed for the men to entrain. It is desired, as the Premier has already stated, to give a couple of days' notice if possible, so that an opportunity can be afforded the men to farewell relatives. It is certain that the'ti wik bt> no hurrying away at a minute's notice. A section of the field artillery battery, comprising four guns and wagons, passed through the_ Square this morning while out for an instructional ride. The smart appearance of the men and equipment evoked^ general admiration. An effort is being made by the people of Palmerston to provide the Expeditionary Force now ia camp there with a full set of brass instruments for the formation of a band.
