EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTE
The Wellington District Institute (N.Z.E.I J met 4 last evening, Mr. J. B. Hopkirk presiding over an attendance of 31 members. Mr. J. Tamblyn moved : "That the Senate of the New Zealand University' be asked to amend the Honours course so as to include education, and, further, "that provision be made for the degree of Doctor of Education." Speaking to the motion, Mr. Tamblyn said his idea was that a Department of Education should be started in one of the universities, with possibly one or two Chairs to start with, and more later on. This would mean the placing of education on the same level as law and medicine* The object of the second part of the motion was to give encouragement to research work. The motion was seconded, and after a little discussion was carried.
