Mr. R. B. Grange has returned to Wellington from a trip to Australia. Dr. Garcia Webster, of Wellington, is a passenger by the tJlimaroa, due here from Sydney next Tuesday. His Excellency the Governor (the Earl of Liverpool) has accepted the position of patron of the New Zealand Football Association. Mr. Herbert H. Welch (son of Mr. R. R. Welch, of Maßtei'ton), died in Australia this week. He had been in poor health for some time. The Hon. Gilbert Carson, M.L.C., has undergone an operation in a private hospital in Wanganui and is now reported to be progressing favourably. Cable advice has been received in Wellington ( that Mr. Alexander Macintosh, superintendent for Messrs. Dalgcty and Co. in New Zealand, ha£ left IjOU« don on his return to New Zealand. Among those who intend accompany* ing the New Zealand forces to the front is the Rev. Father M'Menamm, of IV tone. During the years he has had charge of the Catholic (parish in the suburban town, Father M'Menahiin has won the universal esteem of residents, a fact which was well illustrated on Wednesday evening, when ho was farewelled by a large gathering of the parishioners. On behalf of the members of the Church, Mr. A. Coles, who occupied the chair, presented the departing priest with A purse ot sovereigns, while suitable pre> sentations were also made on behalf of the Children of Mary, the altar boys, and the younger members ot the Church. In making the presentations, Mr. Coles paid a high tribute to Father M'Mena* tniu and his -work in Petone. Similar references were made by Fathers Daly and Quealey. and the guest of the eV6n« ing suitably responded.
