The voyage of the Sliaw, Suvill, and Albion CoM^dTiyV h'nVf 'Slatattia, which vessel arrived at Dunedin on Wednesday from London, was somewhat eventful. •» With the exception of 'i*ough w'e^thef, in the Channel and in the Buy "of ' Biscay, tl(e voyage as far as the Cape was fine ' When in the Southern Ocean ftgale after gale was encountered, the wind seemfiug to «nl/t from one quarter ouly to blow vharder from another. On the 29th a whirl- " } vi\n& passed aVer the ship. It was of small 'circumference, but of terrible force, and lifted the ship's cat bodily off the deck and overboard, much to the regret of all hands at thus losing their mascot. The Mntattia was iv 'communication by Wireless with several ships, "including a Herman Vessel (the Xubeck), until ■war "iwas-deolared," when" all Intercourse was ■stopped, by, advice from the Australian station. Ligjtttt.were dimmed, and a sharp look-out kept, ,-but none of the enemy's ships were sighted, HJMttgh 1 several were heard communicating with .others by code. The ship arrived at Beauty '■Point on the 15th August, continuing her voy--age last Saturday, Captain Gilraour is in command, and has vith him the following officers :— Chief, Mr, All«op; second, Mr J. F, Jamison; third, Mr B, Ellison; fourth, Mr L G, May: chief engineer, Mr L. T Wiriihlp/ second, Mr D McClowen; third, Mr A J. D'Agorne; fourth, Mr E. C. Sholey; fifth, Mr J. W. Rudd; flrst refrigerating engineer, Mr T, Hunter; second, Mr A. O. Mnah ; Marconi Operator, Mr H. Mitchell ; chief •toward, Mr E. T. Miller. ' .KAKAMEA AT AUCKLAND, " Itunnlng under the auspices of the New Zealand' Shipping Company the Karamea. arrived at -'Auckland' yesterday afternoon from Montre&l, via Australian ports. After landing a part" cargo at the northern port the vessel comes on to Wellington, being due here about £Tue4d»y or Wednesday next. ' '

STRANGE VESSEL SIGHTED. While crossing to and fro in the bay near Beauty Point (Tasmania) on the 15th August waiting for daylight the Matatua, which arrived at Uunedin on Thursday from London, sighted a strange vessel standing into Beauty Point The ltotomahanu also reported having sighted the same vessel the previous evening The authorities nere communicated with, bub nothing more was heard or seen of her. ft is considered quite likely that this vessel mte' have been the German steamer Wlsniar, u^ch was due at Bluff from Bremen on the 23rd August. A cable from Melbourne on Monday last stated .—"The steamer Port Lin- j coin, from London, has arrived, and reports communicating with the German steamer Wismar. bound for New Zealand. After the news of the war had been received, the Wlsniar refused to answer further wireless signals, and apparently altered her course." FOR SYDNEY DIKECT. In accordance with the new time<tabl« there will be no steamer for Sydney direct this evening, the departure of the Manuka, which leaves Lyttelton to-iislit for Wellington, being fixed for 3 p.m. to-morrow. Discharge of the Clan Colquhoun's Wellington cargo of jarrah is not expected to be completed until Tuesday ue\t, when the vessel is to sail for Auckland to put out the remainder. The local office of the Union Company was advised this morning that there was a heavy sea on the bar at Greymouth, and in consequence the vessclsKaramu, Kamo, Kowhai, and Kamoua were detained in the roadstead awaiting a favourable opportunity to cross, ft was anticipated that this would come this afternoon. Her departure from JDunedin having been postponed until Tuesday, the Flora is now expected at Wellington on Friday next. She is to be despatched the same day for Picton and the West Coast. i With a cargo of coal from Newcastle the Union Company's collier Kanua arrived at New Plymouth on Wednesday, and came to Wellington to-day. She is scheduled to return to New Plymouth from here to-nforrow. Subsequently she goes to Picton, and then comes on to Wellington again to complete discharge of 'her coal. To load for Napier and Oiaborne inner harbours and Auckland the Rosamond arrived here to-day from Glsborne. She is timed to sail for the northern ports at 5 p.m. on Saturday. This trip is being made as there is no vessel in the East Coast service arriving here on Sunday and sailing on Monday as is usual.
