(By Telegiaph. -Press Association.— Copyright.) COLLISION AT SEA ELEVEN PERSONS DROWNED. VANCOUVER, 26th August. The Canadian Pacific Railway Com- j pany's ferry steamer Princess Victoria, 1943 tons, has 1 been in collision with the United States steamer Admiral Sampson. 2104 tons, near Seattle. The later sank within four minutes of the accident. The Admiral Sampson was en route to Alaska and carried fifty-six passengers and sixty-five of a crew. The Princess Victoria proceeded on her way after picking up the survivors from the sunken vessel. A ithick fog, due to smoke from forest fires along the coast, caused the disaster. Later reports state that eleven persons, including nine of the crew of the Adt miral Sampson were drowned. j Notwithstanding the Admiral Sampson being enveloped in flames through the bursting of an. oil-tank, rescuers from the Princess Victoria acted so piomptly that the bulk of the Admiral Sampson's passengers were removed safely during the few minutes the vessels remained interlocked. STEAMER GROUNDS IN THE ST. LAWitENCE MONTREAL, 26th August. The New Zealand Company's chartered steamer Anglo-Biazihan grounded in thfc St. Lawrence, when departing for Australasia. One thousand tons of cargo have been lightered. It is expected that the vessel will be refloated undamaged. THE PAPAL ELECTION (Received August 28, 8.25 a.m.) ROME, 27th August. Forty-four Cardinals have arrived for the Conclave. It is expected that sixty will be present by Tuesday nex<t.
