The Prince of Wales's Fund for the relief of distress has reached half a million, and includes a contribution by Sir James Caird of £12,000. Sir Robert Lucas-Tooth has subscribed £10,000 to the Countess of Dudley's Fund, of which he acts as 1 chairman. Tile Bank of England received 2£ millions in, gold to-day. Mr. M'Kenna., Home (secretary, has remitted the sentences on suffragettes, also on prisoners connected with recent strikes. In announcing the remission of the sentences, he said the King was confident that prisoners of both classes would not stain their causes by further crimes. Seven thousand men have been enrolled as special constables" in London. Sir Ronald Munro-Ferguson (Gover-nor-General of Australia} has offered Raith House, Kirkcaldy, a* a hospital. Lady Islington has offered her London residence as a hospital for New Zealand, if required. She is also willing to assist in hospital work. The England and Wales Fund ha* reached £650,000. TEMPORARY HOSPITALS THE EXPEDITIONARY FORCE. THREE THOUSAND MEN ENLIST DAILY, ft LONDON, 10th August. The Crystal Palace has been offered to the War Office as a temporary hospital. Earls Spencer, Stradbroke, and others are offering their houses and some Scottish castles as hospitals. All classes are responding to the call for enrolment a* special constables in London. Three thousand men are enlisting daily in the Expeditionary Force, and it is expected that Lord Kitchener's additional hundred thousand men will be obtained much sooner than was anticipated.
