Mr. Frderic Sliipman arrived thie morning on the Ulimaroa. He leaves on Friday for Sydney, en route to America. The Rev. Father Scgrief, who is to accompany the advance force, is v son of Mr. M. Hall is away on active service. During the timo Colonel 0. Harcourt Turner is away from New Zealand on active service liis place as manager df the Wellington branch of th* Blackball Coal Company's business will bo taken by Mr. T. .N. Grange, from the Christchurch staff. It is reported in Australian papers that Mr. William Lowrio, late Director of Agriculture in South Australia, has purchased the Battunga Estate^ near Macclesfield, in that State, and intends ,to carry on mixod farming there. Ho haa been succeeded as director by Professor Perkins, principal of Roseworthy College,' whose position is now filled by Mr. \V. J. Colobatch, formerly in the veterinary branch of the Victorian Department of Agriculture. Mr. W. J., Stafford, late Assistant Experimontalist at Rosewofthy ? has been appointed to the new position of superintendent of agricultural experimental work. At the time that Mr. Lowrio was director of Canterbury Agricultural Colleg©, Mr. Colebatch was lecturer Uiero of veterinary science.
