THE HUTT RIVER

PROPOSED LOAN FOR PROTECTIVE WORKS. Although a considerable sum of money has been spent in connection with thf> Mutt River protective work*, there still remains a great amount of work to be done. Recently Mr. Q. Laing-Meanon, (the Hntt River Board's consulting engineer) was instructed to report upon, the condition of the river from the Hutt, bridgo down to the mouth, and also to make recommendations as to the work necessary. Tho report was considered by the board lost evening, and as a result it was decided to place before tht» ratepayers a proposal to borrow the sum o( £5000. It is intended to devote a portion of this money to works in the upper reaches.
