QUARANTINE CHARGES
NEW REGULATIONS TO BE GAZETTED. . REDUCING IMPORTERS' EXPENSES. An important announcement— that the Government is bringing down a new set of quarantine regulations — was mado in a letter from, the Right Hon. W. I<\ Massey (Prime Minister and Ministci of Agriculture) read at tho Pastoral Conference yesterday afternoon. Undet cover of the communication was a draft, set of the regulations, tho Premier bu-v gesting that they should be considcrcl by the conference before boing gazetted. Dr. C. J. Reakes explained that although the regulations did not provide for the subsidising of importers of purebred stock, provision was made for shortening tho period of quarantine for sheep, and for all animals the quarantine expenses woro reduced. On Dr. Roakos's suggestion a small committee was sot up to meet him on tho following day and receive further information rogavding tho new regulations. A remit from Manawatu proposing that tho Government should subsidise tho importers of pi>v«.-bred stock was held over in the meantime;,
