PREVENTION OF CRUELTY

The fortnightly meeting of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals was held last evening, M>r. V. R. Meredith being in the chair. Other members present were : — Mesdames A. E. Kernot, Wakelin, Williams, and- Seville, Miss Richardson, Mr. Jamieson, Rev. J. Reed Glasson, Inspector Henry, and the secretary (Mr. Andeison). The City Council advised that the ten "warning" .notices supplied by the Society had been placed in various waitingsheds. The inspector reported having dealt with several cases of cruelty to horses, in one of which it was found necessary to take legal proceedings. One horse had beei\ destroyed, while a similar course was adopt «d in the case of a cowi which had dislocaTed its shoulder. Owing _ to the illness of the collector no donations were received, with the exception of a grant of £5 from the City Council.
