FOR ARBOR DAY
"A volunteer is worth ten pressed men." So runs a line at tha foot of a postcard which is being issued by tile Eastbourne Beautifying Society, and which makes an earnest appeal for practical support on Arbor Day. Tins little card, which, in addition to setting out the society's programme of entertain-, ment for the coming year, also gives a fine view of the pretty seaside suburb, is being circulated widely. Proceedings on Arbor ' Day will be opened by the Mayor and councillors of Eastbourne. The workers will meet on County-road, opposite Mr. Cameron/s residence, whence the various parties will at once proceed to their allotted, areas. The children of Eastbourne School will plant sixteen trees in Makaro-road, and a party under the direction of Mr. C. A. Baker has undertaken the work of repairing shelters already erected,, and the replanting of trees that have not been successful. Considerable interest is being taken in tho children's fancy dress dance. In addition to dancing, an attractive programme of fancy dances, songs, instrumental solos and part-songs has been prepared.
