Twenty black-draped aeroplanes hovered overhead ; then one descended low, and, dropped wreaths on the graves. [The disaster was the result of an attempt to test the lighting qualities of tho two types of flying machine, pitted against each other. Lieutenant l ( 'latz, in command of the biplane, was carrying out a mimic attack. He executed rapid swoops over and under the dirigible. After circling the latter and approaching nearer and nearer, he mounted over the airship, and struck it. The biplane toppled sideways »nd felL perpendicularly. Meanwhile flames burst from the airship. The envelope, collapsing over the car, shrouded the occupants in fire and smoke, and the blazing mass fell into a cornfield. Nothing remained but a twisted aluminium framework, smoking material, and charred bodies.]
