WM. COOK AND SONS. Palmerston North. Cooperage and Box Factory.
Tho above firm are the proprietors of one of the oldest established businesses in Palmerston North. "Cook's Cooperage " is one of the institutions of tho town and district, and consequently it is fitting that some reference should be made to it in this issue, especially as it is so closely allied to the dairying industry.. A great many of the factories throughout New Zealand get their supply of butter-boxes from " Cook's," and there are few farmers in tho North Island but aro acquainted with the firm under review and its business. In the good old days, when there were no separators or lreezing companies, Mr. Cook, tho principal of the firm, manufactured kegs for the farmers' butter, which was retailed locally at prices varying from 4d per pound, and then taken out in stores and other goods. This is a quarter of a century ago, of course, and times have changed since then. The factory to-day is a huge concern/ employing a good many hands in the flush of the season, and there are several thousands of pounds' worth of machinery installed in it, and tho firm are in a position to turn out first-class work at very reasonable prices. Band re-sawing and planing is undertaken. Box and cask shooks for export, and for brewery and dairy factory vats, are supplied on the shortest notice, and casks for freezing works are contracted for on any scale. The factory is up-to-date in every ■particular! and tho special attention of dairy-factory managers and others is directed to the facilities at Messrs. Wm. Cook and Sons' disposal for tho quick despatch and faithful carrying-out of all work entrusted to them. The factory and offices aro situated in Main-street East, Palmerston North, right opposite tho new diillshed, and visitors to Palmerslon during the Show or at any other timo aro invited to place their orders with the firm. Quotations are given free,, and satisfaction in every detail is assured when you deal with Wm. Cook and Son, Cooperage Proprietors.
