IN THESE DAYS
ADVICE TO LABOUR GIGANTIC AGGREGATIONS OF CAPITAL MODERN INDUSTRIAL WARFARE. (By Telegraph.— Press Assoclallon.-Copyrlghb.) (Received May 26, 10 a.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. Mr. W. M. Hughes, in opening the Labour Federation Conference, urged tho need for the adoption ,of modern industrial methods. In these days of gigantic aggregations of capital it was not only futile, but suicidal, to adopt tho_ loose formation 'which had served unionism well enough in days past. Modern industrial warfato was as much a matter of scientific application as warfaro between nations. They must be disciplined, under rapid control, and directed to ouo end. The Federation Was, continued Mr. Hughes, an organisation which sought to supplement existing organisations, and, by the establishment of efficient machinery, gather together the industrial forces of the Commonwealth.' By some the Federation's constitution would doubtless be regarded as revolutionary, but in effect it was not, for events had recently moved with such rapidity that the Step was natural and inevitable. MANY DELEGATES. SYDNEY, 25th May. Delegates representing 250,000 trade unionists have met to consider the constitution of _ tho new Australian Workers' Federation.
