SEIZURE OF OPIUM

RECORD HAUL. ON BOARD A STEAMER AT FREMANTLE. (By Telegraph.— Press Association.— Copyright.) (Received May 19, 9.35 a.m.) FREMANTLE, This Day. A record seizure of opium was made by the Customs officials on board the steamer "Ashburton from London, via the Cape, namely, five hundred pounds in weight, valued at over £5000. The opium was discovered among the coal. The captain, the officers, and the crew (a number of whom are Chinese) deny any knowledge of the drug.
