THE EMPRESS THEATRE.
The Empress Theatre continuous pictures were liberally attended last evening, when the principal subject of the new programme was tho Cine* Company's drama "The Banker's Ruse." The story develops along exciting lines. There is a scheming secretary to a banker, who is jealous of the affection that exisits between the banker's daughter and a young barrister. The secretary steals certain documents that would establish the innocence of the lawyer's client, who is on trial for a capital offence. The lawyer engages a skilful detectivo to assist in recovering tho documents. The detective and tho lawyer pursue the others in a second motor-car, and there are some exciting incidents. Notable films also are "The Harem of Haschem," "Williamson Weekly," "Tho Vosges," and "Andy Goes on the Stago"' (Edison comedy).
