LONDON WOOL SALES CLOSING PRICES.

(By Telegraph.— Press Association.— Copyriglit.) LONDON, 16th May. / The wool sales have -closed. During the series 117,500 bales were 6old to the Home market, 40,000 bales to the Continent, and 24,000 bales to America, and 5000 bales were held over. Merinos steadily hardened and good average combings closed fully 7| per cent, above March rates; short faulty 5 per cent, advance; choicest showed little change. All fine croesbreds and choicest of medium croasbreds were keenly competed for by Continental ajid American buyers, and advanced fully a penny ; all coarse grade shabby and medium remained about unchanged, but showed a hardening tendency during the last few days. Slipes were in keen demand, and the best sorts advanced a penny, scoured were a halfpenny to a penny higher. Lambs wool : Merinoe were firm, and unchanged, croasbreds were irregular, seedy 'parcels were in buyers' favour) and free eortts advanced 5 per cent. The following prices were realised for the fleece portions of the clips named :—: — "Erewhon," top price 12|d, average price ll^d; "Terina," top 12d,' average lUd; "Ewhea/* top 13£ d, average ll§d; "Titi," top 14d, aWage llgdj "Omamatare," top 14d, average 13d. HIGHEST PRICES OF THE SERIES. (Received May 18, 10 a.m.) LONDON, 17th May. The wool sales closed at the highest rates- of the series. ' The following prices were realised for the fleece portions of the New Zealand clips named i — " Moawhango," top 14^d, average 12£ d; "Warwick," lo^d and I2|d; "Ngaturi," 13d and ll^d; "Maiha," ILJd and 10|d. The Bank of New Zealand has received the following cable advice from its London office, dated 16th inst. : — "The sales have closed very firm, and prospects are good, There is a good demand for all kinds of wool. The total, quantity held over is 5000 bales of wool, of which 3000 are New Zealand." Messrs. Mvfrray, Roberts, and Co., Ltd., have this day received the following cablegram, dated 16th inst., from their London friends, Messrs. Sanderson, Murray, and Co. :■. — "London Wool Sales.— Sales have, closed firm, with rates unchanged. Five thousand baleß held over."' The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Ltd., has received the following cablegram, from its London house, under date 16th May : " Wool Sales. — Since the date of our last telegram the market has remained unchanged, except greasy crossbred, for which the market is firmer; 183.000 bales were sold at the sales, of which 40,000 were taken for the Continent and 24,000 for America ; 5000 bales were held over. Sales closed with strong competition."
