The grandstand and other buildingß on the racecourse afc Castle Bromwieh were destroyed by fire. Several thousands of pounds' worth of damage were done. Suffragette literature was found on the course. AUTHORITIES ELUDED. BY A PICTURE-SLASHER. LONDON, 16th May. Mrs. Mary Wood, who was sentenced for slashing Sargent's portrait of Henry James in the Royal Academy, and who was subsequently released for hungerstriking, has eluded the authorities,. The police are watching the nursing home from which she disappeared. VIOLENT WOMEN. ANOTHER SCENE IN COURT. (Received May 18, 9.30 a.m.) LONDON, 17th May. Hilda Burkett and Florence Monks were committed for trial for setting fire to the Bath Hotel at Felixstowe. •Evidence was jjiven that the women were connected with the Yarmouth Pier outrage. Violent scenes occurred in Court, The i prisoners turned their backs on the Magistrate. Two wardresses and four policemen were required to keep them in their seats in the dock.
