McLean, master of the Tarawera. is to proceed to Sydney this week to take command of the Mokoia, which is to return to New Zealand next month from Australia. Captain H. White-Parsons, who has lately been in command of the Pateena, transfers to the Tarawera. Captain Cameron, of the Pateena, has returned from holiday leave and rejoins his vessel to-day. Mr. F. W. Collins, one of the Dartford cadets, who has been acting as fourth officer on the Manuka for some months, has been promoted to the position of third officer on the Kotriata. Mr. J. A. Hughan, second officer of 'the Moerald, who has been on holiday leave, rejoined his vessel at Dunedin on Saturday, relieving Mr. T. Bowling, who came ashore for instructions. BY WIRELESS. 17th May. Tahiti will arrive at Wellington D a.m. on Thursday. 17th May. Warrimoo arrived at Gisborne; port unworkable, owing to south-easterly gale. WITHIN WIRELESS RANGE. The following steamers should be within range of the undermentioned wireless station* to-night :— Awanui : Manuka,' Willochra, and Tahiti. Auckland : Manuka ahd Mamari. Wellington : Maori, Wuhine, Tainui, and Warrimoo. Awarua: Ulimaroa and Moeraki. ANDROMEDAAT AUCKLAND. The four-masted barque Andromeda, of 1762 gross tons, which sailed from New York on the 14th January with 90,000 cases of oil on board for Auckland, arrived at the northern port on Saturday. The vessel thus made the long journey in 122 days. The Andromeda is a steel vessel, and wus built In 1890 at Port Glasgow by Messrs. R. Duncan and Company, Ltd., for the Andromeda Steamship Company, of London. VETURIA'S RBCORD PASSAGE. The Now Zealand Herald describes the voyage of the steamer Veturia, which arrived lit Auckland on Friday night from Ne\i York, as a retard one. the vessel having occupied 00 days. The Veturla left the American port on the 16th March, and Was not expected at Auckland until early next week. The previous best passage made by a cargo steamer from New York to Auckland was that of the English Monarch, which arrived at Auckland in October, 1908,^ after a passage of 61 days. The Veturla has on board 180,000 cases of oil, consigned to the four principal New Zealand ports. About .90,000 cases will be discharged ut Auck'laud, after which the vessel comes on to Wellington. The Veturia is a vessel of 5664 tons, and is under the command of Captain T. Brown. She is owned by the Veturia Steamship Company, Ltd., of Glasgow. WILLOCHRA COMING FROM SYDNEY. The steamer Willochra left Sydney for Wellington at 3 p.m. on Saturday, and is due here on Wednesday morning next. She remains in port until Friday, and- then sails for San Francisco, via Uarotonga and Papeete, taking up the Aorangi's time-table running. There will Tie no boat to Melbourne this week. According to t. cable received by the Union Company, the Willochra is bringing to Wellington 84 saloon and 06 steerage passengers. She will discharge 408 tons of general cargo here, including a quantity of fruit. The Arahura arrived at Westport at 1 p.m. yesterday, and sailed at 2 o'clock this morning for Greymouth. She returns from the latter port at 6 o'clock this evening, coming back via Westpor, Nelson, and Picton. The departure of the Aparima for southern ports has been postponed until to-morrow. For the second time, the weather proved unfavourable for placing the Pateena on the Patent Slip to-day. \ The Pacific Cable Board's stea.mer Iris will leave Auckland on the 19th June ort 3ti extended cruise of the Pacific cable stations. She will go from Auckland to Norfolk Island, and thence Suva, Panning Island, Victoria (8.C.). For some time she will be engaged In duplicating the cablo between Albernia and Cape Bcal, and will return to Auckland after an absence of about three months.
