Yesterday afternoon the steamer Joan Craig arrived in Wellington with a load of hardwood from Clarence River. She was berthed at the Railway Wharf, and commenced discharging operations immediately. Most of the vessel's cargo is for the Wairoa harbour worts, and will be taken north by Messrs. Richardson and Co.'s boats— the Rum and the Te Aroha. The rest of the timber is for Lytteltou, and the Joan Craig will probably go south to-night. The Joan Craig Is a btranger to Wellington. She was built in 1005, aud has a gross tonnage of 1148 tons. She is owned by Messrs. J. ii Craiß and Co., of Auckland, and was 1 originally known as the Bentinck. KIA ORA ARRIVES. Several hours earlier than she was expected the New Zealand Shipping Company's chartered steamer Eia Ora arrived in port 'at about 8 o'clock this morning from St. John (Canada), via Australian ports and Auckland. She left the last-mentioned port shortly after noon on Wednesday, and thus completed the trip down to Wellington in the smart time of under 44 hours. This performance ia all the more creditable in viejv of the fact that the vessel has not been docked for twelve months. From the Canadian port, which she left on the sth March, to Adelaide, the Kia Ora had an uneventful non-stop run of 43 days. She next visited Melbourne and Sydney, and then went to Auckland. On arrival here the vessel went to a berth at the Taranaki-street Whnrf to I put out the local portion of her cargo. She will sail, probably to-morrow for Lyttelton and Dunedin to put out the balance of her cargo, on completion of which she will be taken over by her owners (the Shaw, Savill, and Albion Company). The Kia OTa will then load Homeward cargo at Oamaru, Bluff, Tlinaru, Niftier, Whangarei, and Auckland. On her way north she will make a call at Wellington for coaling purposes only. She is due at Whaugarei on I the 10th June, and at Auckland on the 13th June. The Kia Ora will complete her loading at the latter port, and is to sail finally about the 10th June for Hull and London. CLAN SIATHESON LEAVES, NEWCASTLE. The Clan Matheson, running under the charter of Mr. G. 11. Scales, left Newcastle on Wedliesday last for London, after taking in a quantity of bunker coal. The vessel loaded wool and general cargo at southern ports in the Dominion and at Wellington, and left this port on the 3rd May. She goes Home via Suez. WESTMEATH'S MOVEMENTS. At present loading at Picton for West of England ports, the F. and S. Line's steamer Westmeath will afterwards visit Timaru, Lyttelton, Waitara, and Wellington for a similar purpose. She is scheduled to. sail from here for Avonmoutb, via Las Palmns, on the 28th May. PERSONAL. Mr. L. McMurrich, second engineer of the Moeraki, came ashore at Wellington yesterday, and Mr. C. T. Le Gryß signed on as seventh engineer. Mr. F. Collins, fourth officer of the Moeraki, signed oft the vessel's articles yesterday. Mr. W. Ormiston has succeeded Mr. A. R. Douglas as sixth engineer of the Maunganui., The Mapourika arrived at Greymouth at 2 o'clock this morning from Wellington, via Westport. Work was interrupted on the Coast owing to heavy rain, but it is probable that she will sail on her return trip at midnight. She is due here on Sunday. On completion of her discharge in the South, the training steamer Aparima will return to Calcutta, via Newcastle. She loads again in the East for New Zealand. The Kamona is now loading timber at Kaipara for Sydney, and Will sail early next week. The Kennedy will leave Wellington for Nelson and MQtueka to-morrow, and will not go to the West Coast. She is to load apples for export per the Corinthic, sailing next Thursday. The Waverley will take Coaßt cargo to-morrow. With a cargo of cement for Oisborne, Napier, and Wellington, the Blackball Coal Company's collier Ngahere sailed from Limestone Island at noon yesterday. She is expected here on Tuesday, and afterwards proceeds to Greymouth. In order to be placed on the Patent Slip the Ngatoro is expected here on Sunday from Napier. It is probable that the Komata, which Is undergoing a thorough overhaul in Wellington, will resume running about the middle of next week. The Wainorl will not get away for Westport until to-morrow. Some minor repairs to the vessel are being carried out while she i 3 in port. j The Zealandic's departure for Napier, Gisborne, and Auckland, to complete Homeward loading, has been postponed until noon tomorrow. She is to sail from Auckland for London towards the end of the month.
