COLLISION BETWEEN LINER AND PILOT CUTTER FIVE PERSONS DROWNED NARROW ESCAPES. (By Telegraph.— Press Association.— Copyright.) (Received May 14, 8.35 a.m.) LONDON, 13th May. The steamer Star of New Zealand, 4417 tons, belonging to the Star Line, Ltd., collided with and sank a pilot boat. Five of the pilote were drowned. Tho Star of New Zealand picked up fourteen survivors. There were narrow escapes. It was impossible to launch the pilot cutter's boate, and several of those on the cutter scrambled aboard the Star of New Zealand by the anchor chain as the vessels struck. Directly the vessels parted the cutter sank— three minuter after tho collision.
