WHAT THE LABOUR DEPARTMENT IS DOING. " . FURTHEP U BATCHES TO BE SENT INTO COUNTRY. . . ' The Labour Department in .Wellington is making arrangements' to despatch thirty " men to the railway works at Raetahi. ' The first , lot ,of ten will probably leave on Tuesday next and the second batch towards "the end of ,the week. The Department is,' hbwever, awaiting definite advice from the , resident engineer before making final plans. Arrangements are also being made through the Christchurch branch .for road making work to be found for twenty men at the Ashley Gorge, and in all likelihood, a further twenty will, be sent forward later. '. ■ In addition the Auckland branch i» arranging for approximately forty unemployed to 'go to the KawAkawa — Raikohe (north Auckland) and Huntly-Awa-ioa'. railway extension works early during the coming week. >■ • - This makes a total of close on 150 men sent out by the Department to public^ works in the various districts during the past month or so.
