BRITISH POST OFFICE
m WIRELESS— LACK OF COMPETITION.'" STATEMENT BY~MR. HOBHOUSE. (By Telegraph.— Press Association.— Copyright.) LONDON, Ist May. Mr. 0. E. Hobhouse (PostmasterGeneral), in the House of Commons, when presenting the report of the General Post Office, said that the Marconi wireless system was becoming too powerful a monopoly, and it was difficult to obtain competition. Poulsen's was the only serious competitor, and if the latter company demonstrated its ability to provide an efficient service, he would gladly give it a license, and utilise its services. Mr. Hobhouse hinted at legislation to prevent the use of the Post Office for betting purposes.
