MR. MASSEY'S CAMPAIGN

ENTHUSIASM AT COROMANDEL. (Br THLBGfUPH— SPFCIrtI, TO THE POST.) COROMANDEL, This Day. The Prime Minister, who has been paying a visit to theigoldfields this week, has addressed two very favourable meetings—one at Thames on Tuesday evening and another at Coromandel . last evening. Tho meeting in Coromandel was one of the largest, if Hot actually the largest, ever held in the town, and it ie agreed that it was beyond doubt the most representative political gathering ever held here. Settlers from all portions of the Coromandel Peninsula were present. • Mr. Masscy dealt \vith the leading political questions, his remarks being similar to those made in other recent speeches. It had been arranged that tho Prime Minister should cease speaking at 9 o'clock, in order to attend a "social" arranged in his honour, but, by tho wish of the audience, he extended his speech till a quarter to 10. At the conclusion, Mr. Massey was accorded a unanimous vote of thanks, coupled with i>no of confidence in tho Government. The meeting then broke into cheers, and sang "For He's a Jolly Good Fellow."
