NELSON'S NEW HOSPITAL

THE GOVERNMENT SUBSIDY. (BI miGRAPH.— PRESS ASSOCIATION) NELSON, Ist April. The Hospital Board to-day appointed Mr. A. K. Griffin, a local architect, to be architect for the new hospital building. The architect and the medical superintendent will visit several hospitals in Australia before the designs of the new building are prepared. The Minister- of Public Health, in reply to the board's request for the early payment of the subsidy of £18,000 on Mr. Cawthron's gift of £15,000, svrote that he had informed Mr. Cawthron that the subsidy would be forthcoming on the payment of the money, but he did not contemplate that the board would require the whole sum in one payment. As a matter of fact, the payment of so large a sum could not be made without the concurrence of Cabinet. The Minister trusted that the board would be satisfied with the assurance that the subsidy would be paid, and accept it in progress payments, ns required. It was resolved that the Minister be informed that it is the opinion 01 the ftoard, and the wish of Mr. N Cawthron, that the Government should adhere to its 'promise and pay the "subsidy to the credit- of the board without further delay, and, failing the ability of the Government to pay thfc subsidy at once, the current rate of interest on the amount accruing should be paid to the board as from the date of Mr. Cawthron's gift
