Signor Innocent Cicala, editor of & Taraiito newspaper, hns been sentenced to eighteen months' imprisonment f A blackmailing Dorothy Macvad, an '.m« or ican prima donna. Cicala, needing funMs for litecandidature for Parliament, ' .towed tha actress proofs of an article which, ho declared, was nbout to 'appear in Rome accusing her of espionage in tho interests of France. He protended to defend her, and asked for £500 sterling to en* able him to suppress the article. He obtained all her ready money and jewellery, and called next day for tho bnl» mice. Ho was then arrested in the pro* senea of representatives of other journal? who were concealed behind a screen.
