WINDFALL FOR LABOUR.

'As the result of a recent decision of the Court of Session, Edinburgh, Mr. Keir Hardie, as representing the Independent Labour Party, and the Messrs. Redmond, of the Irish Nationalist Party, each become entitled to. receive a Bum of £5000 under the testamentary dispositions of the late Miss Jane Dennistoun Kippen, who died in April, 1912, in Chalmers's Hospital, Edinburgh. • Prior to Miss Kippen's death she placed in the care of a hospital nurse a sealed envelope with an injunction to j pass it over to those who were to dispose of her affairs. Inside the envelop© were three documents which formed the " testamentary writings " relied upon. The amount of the estate was £10,000. One of these contained tha clause : "I, Jane Dennistoun Kippen, desirous to settle any disputes that' my health may cause, while in mental health, do herewith intrust to the Messrs. Redmond, M.P., of the Nationalist Irish Party, and Mr Keir Hardies Independent Labour Party, in equal proportions, all that justly or may belong to me, undertaking to pay all debts due by me." The Court held that the documents disposed of Miss Kippen's estate to the exclusion of her heirs, and that Thomas Duckworth Benson .Eccles, treasurer of the Independent Labour Party, and Mr. Keir Hardie, as representing that party, were entitled to one half of the estate. The other half must go to .the Messrß. Redmond.
