FORTUNES FROM THREAD,
Another huge estate has been left by a ' member of the Coats family, who aro interested in the famous thread factories at Paisley. With the -confirmation of probate of the estate at £2,500,000 of the late Mr. Peter Coats, a director of J. and P. Toats, Limited, the list of members of the family who have left millionaire estates within the last two years is increased to four, and now stands thus : — Mr. James Coats, jun. (intestate) £1,964,745 St James Coats . . .. 1,773,870 Mr. Archibald Coats 1,499,125 S Mr. Peter Coats ... 2,526,270 Mr. James Coats's fortune is believed ; to be the largest ever left by a man without making a will. The British Treasury benefited handsomely in the way of death and estate duties from the Coats family, the aggregate amount of the duties being about £1.500,000, of which Mr. Peter Coats's estate contributes £540.000. Of Mr. Peter (Coats's total estate nearly £2,000,0 iX) is n^-resented by intereats in J. and P. Coats, Limited, a concern whose business comes under the head of romances of commerce.
