POLITICAL PARTIES TO THE EDITOR.
Sir, — It appears plain to public opinion that the present Reform Party, now in power in the Government of New Zealand, are only ' the Conservative Party dressed in a new suit. They have declared that they are going straight for the freehold. The voice of public opinion declares that the laftd question, i.e., land for settlement and facilities for intending settler* to, select land, together with an honest and able administrative land policy, is the first subject in politics. The second question is mmmg — good, solid, honest administrative policy to aid and improve mining in every possible way. The third question is trades and industrial disputes and arbitration. Now, men and women of New Zealand, who have done great deeds in the past for us, for the public good, for the good of all, the well-being of all? The Liberals have dealt with each of the three greatly-im-portant questions for the public good, for the good of all, in an able and statesmanlike manner, in the face of much determined opposi f: on, much invective, and much lobbyjij?. Therefore, the voice of public opinion again declares m the. hearts and homes of ihe citizens of the Dominion tha: Liberalism-united-■with-Labour policy shall stand and shai' bo tho ruling administrative, legislative, and constructive policy for all. Labouritej, do not forget what yon owe to-yoor friends and alUe.s the Liberals, It ie «Iv« to their splendid work that you have had the Labour laws of New Zealand on ihe Statute Books, and you ably helpeel them then. Remember, that the reactionaries, or "Reform" Party, instituted the process of saying "freehold," "freehold," but that is not all of the land question. As to the Social Democrats, let measures , not men, principles not party, purposes not partisanship, motives not "count-outs," aims not, ' Hop-works," ambitions for your country's welfare not red flags, be your mottoes. Get a strong political platform of >our own, enunciate it to public opinion. ; Can you find a new ;voice to. agre&^vith
your ''stop-work" and universal-strike tactics? BeEter strategy, \he say to you, friends, will be good for all, and let the public good, for all, to lielp all, be in, your hearts and minds, with Christianity deep in them yet shown and known. No recriminations, no slurs or personalities, no dispaiagement of public men. A fair hearing, an open mind, with an honest and just judgment, shall be for the good of all, the public good. And l^t the teachers of religion, of ChrisiJanity, have a hearing in your midst. Are you going to throw away and wslk npon the fruits of years of administrative labours in this 1 Dominion, because \ou at time 3. fancy disorder, mob rule, and the sequel, anarchy, will be proper rule and government, administration, and actioii. justice; law, and order? A LabourLiberal coalition will make the last, requisites for the good of all. — I am, etc., LOVE JUSTICE. 26tE March.
