SWIMMING
THORNDON CLUB. The final of a 100 yards handicap, the preliminary heats of which were decided on Tuesday, were got off last evening by the Thorndon Club. Results: — First heat.— T. H. M'Lean (lOsec) 1 J. Sheeny (ssec) 2, F. Roberts (lsec) 3 Also started: W. Lomas (osec), J. Shearer (6sec), S. Dudson (4sec), and R. Evans (scr). Time, 81sec. M'Lean won by a yard. Second heat.— A. W. Smith (25sec) 1 W. J. O'Meara (lOsec) 2. J. Thomas (2sec) 3. Also started: W. R. King and H. W. Harris '(2ssec), L. M'Caskey (llsec), and S. Henrys (6sec). Time, 91sec. Smith won by a good margin. Final.— A. W. Smith 1, J. Sheehy 2, T. H. M'Lean 3. Timj, 90sec. Smith won Uy. a yard, with Kheehy a touch ahead of .M'Lean. As the result of this race makes three competitors (Dudson, Evans, and M'Lean) equal with 17 points each for the Sir Joseph Ward challenge cup, it has been decided that they shall swim a 100 yards handicap race on Monday next, the 30th instant, the winner to hold the cup for the season... . _ v
