CITY MAYORALTY ADDRESS BY MR. M'LAREN.
A ladies' meeting in support of Mr. " D. M'Laren'e candidature for the Mayoralty was held yesterday afternoon in The Tifira tea-rooms. Mrs. M'Laren was voted to the chair. The meeting was largely attended, and the candidate delivered an address touching on various questions of city government in which women are specially interested. Dealincr with the housing question, he pointed out that women were the chief sufferers from bad housing conditions. He contended that the City Council should have a settled policy in order to deal effectively with this problem. His proEosal was that certain revenues should c placed to tbe credit of a special fund, j which would be devoted to making con- ! stant improvements in the housing conditions. The City Council should not name the area to be dealt with, as that would force up values, but fiom rime to time should acquire properties, demolish unhealthy premises and erect decent houses in place of these. A motion of thanks and confidence in Mr. M'Laren was carried, and all present formed themselves into a working committee. Officers were appointed and plans of work were arranged. The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks to the chairwoman.
