The shortage of coal is being keenly felt by borne of the inter-State vessels trading with Newcastle (says a Sydney paper of the lath March), and local agents are beginning to iind the position somewhat embarrassing to keep , the bteamers to their scheduled times of running. One particular vessel has been now in port a week, and her loading will take up another couple of days. Ordinarily from the time of the steamer's arrival to clearing the liort is two or three days, but present conditions are making the stay in port a matter of eight or nine days. The present delays are mainly due to the stoppages at some of the mines, making a consequent decrease in available supplies of coal. The Tyser steamer Indrabarali was to have left London yesterday for Wellington, via Australian ports and Auckland. A reported charter is that of the steamer Borderer, 4372 tons, to load jarrah at West Australia for New Zealand ports. The tramp steamer Knight of the Thistle, which recently brought a special cargo of coal to Wellington, sailed from Newcastle for Valparaiso on the 13th March with 10,493 tons of coal cargo and bunkers.
