A CONTRADICTION STATEMENTS MADE AT HARBOUR BOARD .MEETING.

In copveisatioo with a Post reporter, a prominent member of the Wharf Labourers' Union took strong exception to the statement made by Mr. Hill at last night's meeting of the Harbour Board. "The majority of the new members now working for the Harbour Board," said the informant, ''raise very pointed objection to Mr. Hill's remarks, inasmuch as his statements were absolutely contrary to fact. He stated, in reply to Mr. Hindmarsh, that practically the whole body of men on the wharves were dissatisfied with the way in which the executive of the Watersiders' Union is carrying on. A number of the new hands are also seeking to have their names erased from the petition, inasmuch as they allege tfea* a deliberate attempt was made to deceive them as ■ to the contents of the paper they signed When asked to sign it they were busily engaged and did not have time to peruse the document, but believed it was something in connection with the work of the present union, and were very much surprised when they discovered the position. They have also gone in bodies this morning to the office of the union to state their case, believing at the present time that an injustice has beep done, and they wish it to be clearly understood^ that they have every confidence both in the management and the present union generally." Another member stated that he noticed by the pre6s reports that Mr. Curtice had stateu the petition emanated from the meeting in the Trades Hail. "I was present at that meeting," he said, "and there were only five new members there. lam satisfied that the resolutions carried did not meet with the approval of the new members present, | and that the large majority of* new men ;ire opposed to shy attempt whatever to disband this union or form an additional cunion." j
