ACCOUNTANT STUDENTS

The first meeting of the 1914 session was held last night in the Accountants' Cham-., bers. The subject of discussion was a Mock Arbitration cokoerning several disputes arising oat of a partnership business — Spright and Bright, indent merchant*. There were sixty members present. Mr. E. W. Hunt (president) occupied the chair. Those who took principal parts* in the discussion were: — Partners, Mr. W. C. Harrington (Spright;, Mr. W. Appleton 'Bright) ; counsel, Mr. R. Kennedy, M.A., I»L.M., for Spright, and Mr. J. Murray Dale, LL.B., for Bright ; arbitrators, Messrs. T. Anton and James Macintosh; umpire, Mr. J. S. Barton, F.LA.N.Z. ; accountant, Mr. J. D. Eves. It wae a very .interesting pvening, »nd a "hearty vote of thanks was extended to those wiio took the trouble to work up the subject.

Therfire brigade received a call at 12.14 p.m. to-day to No. 67, Wariponstreet, Wellington South, a nine-roomed dwelling owned and occupied by Mr. Charles Edwards, where a portion of thewashhouse was discovered to be ablaze. The outbreak, which was caused by some sparks from the copper fire, was quickly extinguished before any serious damage was done. The building is insured in the State Fire Insurance Office for £400, while a risk for £]00 is held by the New Zealand Insurance Company. Messrs. E.
