KARORI BOROUGH COUNCIL MEETING
lho fortnightly meeting of the Karori Borough Council was held last evening. Present : The Mayor (Mr. C. Cathie), Councillors Burn, Bradnock, Davies, Hamilton, Boyes, Skegg, and Cimino. WORKS AND, RESERVES COM-.. MITTEE. The Works and Recreation Reserves Committee reported 'that Mr. R. J. Tarr had written, asking the council to reduce the price charged for grazing on the back of the Recreation Pieserve from £20 to £15 per annum. The committee recommended tlrat Mr. Tarr be offered the grazing for £17 10s per annum. This was agreed to. The committee also recommended .that I the Borough Engineer enlarge the preI sent veiervoir at the quarry in' accordance with his report of the 10th inst. This was approved. A letter was received from the Wellington Hockey Association regarding the erection of dressing rooms for clubs and the hire of same for the season. It was decided to instruct the engineer to have plans prepared and obtain estimates for four rooms, utilising the present Straker shed, and submit the sameto the council for consideration. It was recommended by _ the committee that any moneys received from grazing on the park be ear-marked, and be used for the 'purpose of planting trees in the back portion of the park. This was agreed to. TRTAL BALANCE-SHEET. Councilor Hamilton moved : "Thai the Town Clerk be instructed to prepaie ii trial balance-sheet of the general account as soon as possible after the clohe of the financial year ; a copy to be forwarded to each councillor." This, he said, was a..very necessary step to take. Councillors should be in touch with the fir'ancial position of the borough ' as quickly as possible after the. end of the financial year. It was usual for the Mayor to make a statement of the finances, but it was difficult to follow the details of an oral statement. What he asked was done by other local bodies. Councillor Boyes seconded the motion. The Town Clerk (Mr. England) said such a balance-sheet was always made out, and copies could be obtained by councillors desiring them. The motion was adopted. MOTOR-BUSES. Councillor Cimino asked wbat was the position of the council in regard to the motor-buses. Had the council any liability? > ** The Mayor replied that the council had no liability that he was aware of. The city had a bylaw regulating the speed. Councillor Cimino said he wished to know, in regard to the regulation and running of the 'buses, if the Borough Council had any responsibility? The Mayor : None what ever. Councillor Cimino remarked that it had been stated that it had never been the custom for the 'buses to have conductors; and it had been contended, also, that the back door was always fi-vfikble in case of accident, whereas he bad noticed that the doors were ahvavs bciuwed up, and wcie not available in cade of iiccident. r l he Mayor said they might write to Uie company, pointing out the risk. The council was not 'HabK Councillor Cimino said that benzine was sometimes stored under the seats. Councillor Boyes asked if the company had done anything in respect to the storage of petrol in a concrete magazine. The Engineer (Mr. Brigham) rrpMed that, so far as he knew, there wi's not a large quantity of benzine stored there.
