CITY AFFAIRS GREATER WELLINGTON ELECTORS' ASSOCIATION MEETING
THE MAYORAL CAMPAIGN. The annual meeting of the Greater Wellington Municipal Electors' Association was held at the Town Hall last evening, there being a fair attendance. Mr. A. Leigh Hunt presided. The Chairman, in moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet (already published), referred to the unavoidable absence of their president (Mr. J. G. W. AitKeriJ through ill health, apd said they would all be glad to hear that he was now making satisfactory progress towards recovery. Dealing with the coming Mayoral election, lie urged that the association should again do its best to secure the return of the present Mayor, Mr. J. P. Luke, who had done so much to help to restore law and order during the recent industrial crisis. He thought they would bo false to themselves if they did not remember one who had stood by them during that time. The Mayoral election would enable them to show that appreciation by supporting the return of Mr. Luke. They were not going to have a "Red Fed" for a Mayor, a "rail sitter."' or a "Pink Fed," but a "white fed." He hoped that more attention would be given to town-planning during the ensuing year.- They wanted to do away with slums, and in this con-: nection he said he was pleased to notice that the council had decided to enlarge the frontages of sections that might be built upon. The report and balance-sheet were adopted. The following officers were elected for the ensuing year: — President, Mr. J. G. W. Aitken; vice-presidents, Messrs. A. Leigh Hunt and T. Ballinger ; secretary and treasurer, Mr. J. L. Arcus ; auditor, Mr. C. D. Robertson ; committee, Messrs. J. S. Barton; E. C. Jack, E. G. Collie, G. A. Hurley, Skinner, and Dr. A. K. Newman. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded the president and members of the executive for their woi'k during the past year. A hearty vote of thanks was also accorded to the secretary (Mr. Arcus). On the motion of the Chairman it was decided to tender Mr. Aitken the association's best wishes for his complete and speedy recovery. A motion moved by Mr. D. J. Skinner supporting the City Council "in its proposed loan in the belief tho said loan is fully justified by the rapid growth of the city" was withdrawn, it being pointed out that the council had not yet definitely determined its proposals.
