SCENES OF HEROISM WRECK OF A STEAMER
RESCUE WORK. (By Telegraph.— Press Association.— Copyright.) (Received March 20, 12.10 p.m.) HALIFAX (Nova Scotia), 19th March. Thrilling scenes of heroism marked the wreck of the steamer City of Sydney, 2568 tons gross, off Sambro, ten miles south of Halifax. . While salvaging the cargo a' heavy sea capsized a dory, and Captain Bump and a seaman named Snow were thrown into the water. Another dory rescued them, but a. sea capsized it, and the three men were then struggling in the whirling water. Assistance arrived in another dory, and rescued a third man, but, as the rescuers were dragging in Captain Burns, se'aa tore the dories apart and Burns sank. An excited crowd watched on the seashore, fearing that both rescuers and rescued would bo overpowered. A heavy sea is running.
