MR. ATMORE, M.P.
A SPEECH' AT WAffiOA,
(IT TILEORAPH— PRSSS ASSOCIATION.) WAIROA; This Day. Despite the wet stormy weather, Mr. Atmore, M.P., addressed a large meeting in reply to the. Hon. F. M. B. Fisher's Wairoa speech." Mr. Atmore, said' Mr. Fisher, , was prepared to speak in small places, but did not dare to face Wellington Central. ' The speaker made a " strong defence of Sir Joseph ,Wa.rd, and ridiculed the statement that the Liberals had done no good ' while in Ow*ce. Before the election Mr. Massey had promised to reveal corruption, but had found none to reveal. It was not the Government that had settled the strike, _ but the farmers. Mr. Fisher had said so, and the Chief Justice from the Bench had showed that the Government had not done its duty at the start. The Massey party, said M)\ Atmore. was a supporter of monopolists — shipping, banking, land, and irtsurance--and Mr. Massey dare not go 'against one of these. Ho was Premier under dictation ; his was a Government not of the people by the people, or for the people. Mr. Atmore gave statements regarding the Wcstport Harbour Board affair, and the Royd Garlick appointment and referred to the Civil Service and Railway Commissioners. He concluded "amid loud applause.' A vote of thanks and confidence in the Opposition was carried with cheers, for Sir Joseph Ward and the Liberals.
