PROSPECTS OF PURCHASE j The committee which is endeavouring to" raise the £6000 required to complete the purchase of Day's Bay bush and grounds is still prosecuting the scheme, and has already added_ considerably to its numbers. *A tentative plan of canvassing the city has been mapped out, but even now more canvassers are required and efficient volunteers will_ be welcomed. Several additional donations have been received, but the committee is looking for big sums and has good hopes of the result of to-day's operations. Some misunderstanding appears to have arisen in certain quarters as to the details of the option of purchase which the committee has secured. It is as follows :~- £ Total bush land, 620 acres. 200 acres at £10 420 acres at £2 7s 8d ... 1,003 Fronting the main road— 62ft at £6 10s per foot ... 403 2l3ft at £6 1,278 Fronting Raru-road, 279 ft at £4 1,116 No. 5 ' ground, fronting Raruroad, 300 ft at £5 1.500 Pavilion, with 120 ft frontage . 2,000 Caretaker's cottage, with 40ft frontage 400 Frontage on Main-road, 300fb bet-Ween caretaker's cottage and camera obscura, £6 per foot 1,800 Total £11.500 £ Tennis court, with 330 ft frontage on Main-road, at £6 ... 1,980 Back tennis court ... ... 600 £2,580 Amount of option £2,500 ({rand total £14,000 The banks, the Ketailers' Association, the Merchants' Association! the Motorcycle Union, the Working Men's Club, and other institutions and public bodies have been approached by the canvassers on behalf of the Citizens' Committee, and have premised to meet to consider the matfor. A canvass is a-lso being made amongst the Chinese residents.
