AMERICANS AT THE BASIN. POWER EASILY WINS THE MILE. That the visit of the American champions has revived the interest of the public in athletics was evidenced by the satisfactory attendance at the Basin Reserve this afternoon, on the occasion of the meeting held under the 'auspices of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association. The results up to the time of The Post going to press were :— First Heat.— G. Parker (America), scr, 1; M. Pool, 4yds, and J. Wilton, 6yds (equal), 2. Five started. Won by «i yard Time. 10 l-sse<T. Second Heat.— L. Murphy, 10yds, 1; S. H. Hale, Byds, 2. Six started. Time, 10 l-ssec. i Third Heat.— R. M. Morris, 11yds, 1; A. Cunningham, Byds, 2. Three started. Time, lOsec. One Milo Run. (New Zealand record 4min 22sec.)— J. Power (America), scr, 1; L. J. Shaw, 65yds, 2; R. Hastings, 100 yds, 3. Sixteen started. Shaw was 25yds away in second place, and Davison 10yds behind him. Time, 4min 28 3-ssec.
