SPY SENTENCED
THE AUSTRIAN SCANDAL LONG TERM OF IMPRISONMENT^ (By Telegraph,— Press Association.— Copyright.) (Received February 28, 11 a.m.) VIENNA, 27th February. Lieutenant Jandric, who was concerned in the Red! scandal, has been sentenced to nineteen years' imprisonment. His brother Cedomyl's trial concerning espionage has begun. [The treachery of Colonel Redl, who committed suicide when about to the arrested on a charge of immorality and selling secrets to the. Russian Government, was discovered by accident when, in July of last year, Lieutenant Jandrie was arrested on a charge of espionage. The lieutenant's papers included a letter from the chief of a foreign espionage bureau, directing him to receive letters from Redl, and also a cipher. 'This was used for a telegram summoning Redl from Prague to Vienna. Redl immediately went, detectives following him. Redl is ?aid_ to have received £10,000 for his previous winter's spy work. Throughout the Balkan crisis he had enabled Russia U* reply to the movements of the Austrian forces. In fact, the Russian movements sometimes anticipated th& Austrian plans. Jandric had been accustomed to meet Russian" agents in a Russian church in Vienna, and, while apparently at devotions, handed them documents.]
