BENTON'S MURDER
VILLA'S AMPLIFIED STORY ENGLISHMAN PRODUCED A REVOLVER REBEL LEADER ALSO DREW A WEAPON. (Bj Telegraph.— Press Association.— Copyright.) (Times— Sydney Sun Special Cables.) MEXICO CITY, 25th February. General Villa informed 6ome journalists that Mr. Benton gained entrance to his office on the pretext of personal business. He had not talked long when lie produced a revolver. Villa grabbed Benton's hand, and thrust his own revolver to the pit of Benton's stomach. He (Villa) did nob wish to appear bloodthirsty, and therefore did not shoot Benton. Instead, he summoned he guards. A courl>martial was then held, aaid Benton was executed. INTERMENT OP BENTON FULL RELIGIOUS OBSERVANCES. WASHINGTON, 24th February. El Paso reports that General Villa stated that Mr. Benton was interred with full religious observances. He -will not disinter the body, as he has no desire to be guilty of such a. sacrilege. THE BEST COURSE BRITISH AMBASSADOR SATISFIED. NEW YORK, 24th February: Sir C. Spring-Rice (British Ambassador) is satisfied that the United States is taking the best course in Tegai'd to the Benton ease. The British Consul at Galveston has been ordered to proceed to El Paso to investigate Mr. Benton's murder.
